ALL ABOARD THOMAS LAND
With listeners telling us all about Thomas Land at the award-winning Drayton Manor Theme Park, we jumped at the chance to go along and review this magical family day out.
Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Theme Park
The magical island of Sodor went through a £2.5M expansion in 2015 and Thomas Land is now home to 25 rides and attractions. All of them were suitable for toddlers, however, some rides were restricted to children being over 1 metre tall. Waiting time for most rides were very short.
Charlie’s favourite was Jeremy Jet’s Flying Academy which is located next to Sodar Airport. This open-top ride seats up to four people and gently goes round. Each plane is controlled by its own button to make the plane lift up when they want. Charlie is a budding and very daring pilot so loved every minute of it.
Winston’s Whistlestop Tours was another favourite of ours. Each car holds up to four people and steadily goes along an elevated track. It’s a chance for your little ones to explore the Island of Sodor from above. It’s a popular ride and the one with the longest queue, but it was still only a 15-minute wait.
Here’s what we thought of Drayton Manor
Budding Firefighters to the rescue
Flynn’s Fire Rescue gives your little ones the chance to step into the shoes of a “fireman”. Oops, Drayton Manor will upset female firefighters with this phrase! Anyway, it’s a fabulous ride because you get to hose down a make-believe fire with powerful jets while rotating up and down.
Other rides include Sodor Classic Cars, Toby’s Tram Express and Captain’s Seas Adventure. Check out all the rides here
Climb Aboard Thomas, Percy or Rosie
After all the rides at Thomas Land which is a day in itself, you can climb aboard Thomas, Percy or Rosie for a short 5-minute train journey to the other end of the park. When you depart, you’ll be within walking distance of Dino Trail (a land of dinosaurs) and the Zoo which includes monkey and tigers.
To sum up, Charlie wants to go back. He absolutely loved it. We all did!
Fat Controller and friends
The Fat Controller and friends walked around Thomas Land happily posing for photos which helped to raise plenty of smiles. They also performed song and dance routines at regular intervals.
Explore Thomas Land
Don’t worry, there’s more to Drayton Manor Theme Park that Thomas Land. You’ll find all the thrill-seeking rides in the main park where you can take a flight on Maelstrom (Ginge loved this) and Air Race (gliders that go upside down). Shockwave is a firm favourite, a stand-up roller coaster. However, Ginge remembered going on this 22 years ago so don’t let this put you off! Apocalypse is a heart-stopping 54m drop tower. A full list of rides can be found by clicking here.
Some Negative Points
The food is highly overpriced. In fact, just a cup of water with a tea bag plonked in will cost you a couple of quid. Therefore, packed lunches are highly recommended for families. Furthermore, you have to park on grass so if it’s been raining, you’ll find yourself stepping into a muddy puddle, however, parking is FREE. One last thing, many of the rides in Thomas Land are limited to one adult per ride which can cause some upset and jealously (mainly with the adults).
